Gordon “Gordy” MacLeod, Aldara Park’s most patient plumber, had seen it all—toddler toys, wedding rings, and once, a perfectly preserved haggis down a toilet vent. But nothing prepared him for the call to the new, ultra-modern estate just up by the famous raspberry fields.
The homeowner, a frantic woman named Mrs. Higgins, met him at the door looking like she’d just been hit by a tidal wave of bubbles.

”It’s a geyser, Mr. MacLeod! A veritable fountain in my kitchen sink!” she wailed, her voice hitting a pitch usually reserved for distressed sopranos.
Gordy arrived in the kitchen to find the sink spewing a strange, high-pressured jet of water—water that was oddly foamy and faintly almond-scented.
”Right, Mrs. Higgins,” Gordy sighed, rubbing his temples. “What exactly were ye doing when the eruption started?”

”Nothing, dear boy! I was merely trying to order my morning beverage! I have that new, integrated Smart-Frigidaire system that connects to everything. I said, ‘Smarty, order me a small almond latte.’ And then… geyser!”
Gordy traced the pipework back to the utility room where he found the culprit: the main water valve was hooked up to a small, glowing device labeled “Hydro-Automaton v3.0.” It was a voice-activated Smart-Flush system intended to manage the septic pressure for the whole house.
”Ah, I see,” Gordy muttered, pulling out his spanner. “This isn’t connected to yer coffee machine, Mrs. Higgins. It must’ve misinterpreted ‘almond latte’ as ‘all men flush the estate.’ It’s a common glitch with that model when it hears fancy milk drinks.”

He knelt down to manually override the digital nightmare. As he struggled with a particularly stubborn pressure gauge, he gave a heavy, exasperated grunt—the kind only a man wrestling with automated sewage can make.
Suddenly, a series of loud CLACKS echoed from the garden, followed by the roar of high-pressure water. Gordy looked out the window to see that the Smart-Flush system, sensing his vocal distress, had interpreted his groan as the emergency command “Run the hose!” The powerful sprinkler system was now flooding the massive patch of prize-winning Blairgowrie raspberries next door.

Gordy shrugged, wiped the almond-scented foam from his overalls, and handed her the bill. “Well, Mrs. Higgins,” he said with a dry grin. “That’ll be three hundred quid. At least your neighbour’s raspberries are getting a clean, high-pressure rinse before the jam competition.”
